Assessing NFV/SDN impacts On Processes, Organization And Skills

For telecom and service providers, migrating to a virtualized network requires a deep transformation.
From designers and operators of telecom equipment and infrastructures, Telecom providers tend to become software companies. NFV/SDN impacts your Customer Experience Management Strategy

The emergence of SDN / NFV concepts is a great accelerator of the digital transformation for telcos.
Some have well understood this, particularly in the B2B market where NaaS offers for “Network as a Service” are flourishing on the market.
However, we must be careful in the customer approach, especially in the modeling of the main customer journey, sales, assurance, MACD and underlying process (delivery order for example). It is not uncommon to hear customers complain about the availability of activities that, in the traditional approach, were the responsibility of the service provider. These customers consider that they have to take care of part of their supplier’s work (activation, modification, etc.). Not all customers are similarly interested in increased autonomy. Addressable customer segmentation and customized Customer Journey design is required, otherwise the project will be rejected.
The measurement and management of customer experience will have to take into account these new routes and this new architecture. The management of customer experience, when it could be implemented and tooled, is very often based on data collection from the network via probes (or call trace). This data is analyzed (causes of errors for example) and restored in graphical / cartographic forms and recorded as KPIs.
The introduction of NFV / SDN involves reviewing the entire analysis of the customer experience, the sourcing of data controllers and orchestrators to the calculations of new KPIs by passing new analysis / interpretation of events reported. New Use Cases are to be defined both on the virtualization of network functions and on the customers’ use of the services provided. This new data, whose volume is important, will be integrated into the BI / Big Data channels.

Software Defined Networks and Information Systems: the convergence begins
